What You Will Need:
- Furniture blankets
- Plastic wrap
- Picture and mirror boxes
- Cardboard corner protectors
- Packing paper
- Bubble wrap
- Tape
- Fragile tape or stickers
The Safest Way To Pack Mirrors
- Get a picture and mirror box that fits the size of your mirror. If you can’t find one then you can also make your own sized box using large cardboard boxes.
- Scrunch up packing paper and place in the box surrounding the edges to use as a protective lining between the mirror and the box.
- Measure and cut a piece of cardboard to the size of the mirror and place it in front of the mirror for added protection. Secure the piece of cardboard with some tape.
- Place cardboard corner protectors or use bubble wrap on the corners of the mirror for further protection. The corners will suffer the most impact during the move so it is important to keep them well padded and protected.
- Wrap the entire mirror in bubble wrap or packing paper and secure with tape before placing it in the box. Be generous with the bubble wrap or packing paper as this an important step.
- Once the mirror has been placed in the box, use scrunched up packing paper to fill in any gaps. You want to make sure there are no gaps or empty spaces in the box. If the boxes get shaken, you should not be able to feel the mirror move.
- Try not to pack more than one mirror per box. The movement of multiple mirrors within the same box may cause friction and therefore lead to breakages.
- Place fragile tape or fragile stickers on multiple different services of the mirror box so your removalists are aware to take extra caution with this item.
The Best Way To Pack Oversized Mirrors
If you have an oversized mirror that is too big for mirror boxes, the best way to pack them is with furniture blankets.
- Get some good quality furniture blankets. You may need to purchase a few depending on the size of your mirror. Furniture blankets can easily be purchased from your local hardware store, storage facility or removalists company.
- Measure and cut a piece of cardboard to the size of the mirror and place it in front of the mirror for added protection. Secure the piece of cardboard with some tape.
- Place cardboard corner protectors on the corners of the mirror for further. Wrap bubble wrap around the edges of the mirror. The corners and edges will suffer the most impact during the move so it is important to keep them well padded and protected.
- Wrap the entire mirror in furniture blankets. You can secure the furniture blankets in place with tape or plastic wrap.
- Place fragile tape or stickers on the front and back of your wrapped mirror so your removalist company know to be extra careful.
Another alternative to packing oversized mirrors is to build a custom crate out of plywood. You can do this yourself or get a quote from a professional furniture removalist company. This will be an expensive method of packing a mirror, but also one of the safest.
