WHAT IS A DEPOT TO DEPOT CHARGE?
Why Are Movers’ Depot Locations So Important?
When you book a removalist, it’s important to know where they are located because you aren’t just paying for the move itself: you are also paying for their before and after travel time: including petrol, tollways and travel GST.
In other words, most other “cheaper” removalists will only quote their door-to-door price. You won’t know how much extra you’ll need to pay for however long it takes their truck to drive from their single depot location to your pick-up address and from your delivery address back to their depot. That’s what they mean when they quote the moving cost, plus the mysterious “depot to depot charges,” aka. “travel fees” or “call-out fees.”
When you search for “a mover near me,” the companies you find will usually only have one depot location. So even if their depot location is close to your pick up address, your delivery address may still be far away.
And however long it takes them to drive from and back to their one and only depot, you foot the bill!

How Do 18 Depot Locations Reduce My Call Out Fee?
At MetroMovers, we have 18 different depot locations strategically spread out across the Greater Melbourne and Sydney suburban areas. And because we have so many different depots, we can calculate your local call out fees at a much lower rate. Because the closest MetroMovers removalists near your pick-up location is where we drive from. And our closest removalist depot to your delivery address is where we drive back to.
That means:
- You pay less for the travel time to your pick-up location.
- You pay less for the travel time to your delivery location.
- You also don’t pay any extra taxes or fuel levies with MetroMovers. Only for the exact travel time, as defined independently by Google Maps.
- You know your travel fees before you book because they are automatically calculated into your moving quote.
So when you choose MetroMovers, you know exactly how long it takes for our local movers to reach your location. And even before you book, you know exactly how much your move will cost, including call-out fees.
At MetroMovers you are completely informed from step one.
That’s what our all-inclusive, upfront moving quote price really means.

Call Out Fee Comparison In Melbourne
For example, if you are moving across Melbourne from Mornington Peninsula to Blackburn, your nearest moving pick-up depot would be located in Frankston, a mere 15 minutes from your pick-up address. And your nearest moving delivery depot would be in Box-Hill, which is around 10 minutes’ drive from anywhere in Blackburn.
If you were moving with another removalist company, they might have a depot close to Blackburn, but you would still have to pay for the extra hour of travel, petrol, tollways and tax it takes them to arrive at your Mornington pick-up address.

Call Out Fee Comparison in Sydney
Say you’re moving all the way across Sydney from Ashfield out to Freshwater and you hire another moving company near you in Burwood (just 10 minutes’ drive away). They seem like the closest removalists near you, but they are only near your pick-up address. After delivery, their trucks would need to battle the Sydney traffic for an extra hour to get back to their home depot. And the cost of the travel time, petrol, tolls and taxes can almost double your moving cost! Worst of all, most moving companies only calculate the “travel time” costs after the move.
At MetroMovers, we have depot locations all over Sydney, from the far Northern suburbs, down South and even out West. So if you’re leaving Ashfield and moving to Freshwater, the nearest removalist depot to your pick-up location would be in Leichhardt, which is around 10 minutes from your Ashfield pick-up address. And we also have another MetroMovers removalist location in Dee Why, which is just 8 minutes away from Freshwater.
That means the MetroMovers call-out fees, for both ways, would total just 18 minutes! The call-out travel times are already calculated into your online quote by Google Maps and there are no additional fuel levies or travel taxes to pay either.

FAQ ABOUT REMOVALIST TRAVEL FEES
FAQ About Call Out Fees
When you book a MetroMove, our removalists and trucks are working for you from the moment they leave our nearest removalist depot to the minute they arrive back at the depot nearest your delivery, no matter how close or far. So they get paid for that time as well.
Yes we can. We don’t charge extra for petrol or taxes. So when you fill out your pick-up and delivery suburbs to get your instant, online quote, the travel time and therefore, call out fees, are automatically and accurately calculated and marked out in the quote provided.
We use an independent source, Google Maps, to calculate the depot to depot travel times. Then the travel time is calculated, to the nearest 5 minute increment, at the same rate as the rest of your move per hour. That way you know you are always getting a fair and impartial calculation of your travel times.
No. We don’t charge extra fuel levies or travel taxes on any of our local MetroMoves.
Our standard MetroMovers travel routes do not include tollways in Melbourne or Sydney. We know all the best routes around them. So you won’t have to pay tollway fees unless you request we travel via tollways. In that case, we charge a once off $20 tollway fee that covers all tollways to your pick-up address, between your pick-up and delivery addresses and back to the MetroMovers removalist depot nearest to your delivery address.
